Swee Choon with my family!! ❞ ♡ Sunday, December 30, 2012

Have decided to make the photos of food extremely huge hehe. So as the title suggests, the family went to Swee Choon for dinner (which lasted pretty long until when the supper crowd started streaming in, lol). Sat outside 'cause we didn't wnna wait so long for the air-conditioned seats. Too hungry even from hearing everyone in the queue talk about what food they'd be ordering, haha. First time there and I must say t'was a great foodie experience!! (:

This shall be a food review session since we tried so many dishes there!! Counted from the order list and there were like 22 dishes (ok including the pu'er tea LOL) for my family of 4. Which was really a lot because we couldn't really walk properly after all the food, hahah! Took a photo of every dish except for the la mian! ): Was too engrossed with eating already, hahaha.

This was the first dish that came! Bro didn't like it 'cause t'was too spicy but the rest of the fam thought that it tasted good! (: A lil bit spicy but I liked the mushrooms and the tofu so it's a thumbs up from me!

I thought this tasted good 'cause the wanton really had loads of stuffings inside! (: But it's majority pork I think so if you prefer prawns you should go for the fried shrimp dumpling instead!

Not very fantastic but we only tried it because the reviews said so. LOL. Listen to me, this is mediocre. Hahaha.

Swee Choon's signature mee-suah kueh! Tasted good for a first timer like me! (: Didn't know what to expect anyway but I think we ticked this 'cause many of my friends had this and said t'was good and that it's their signature dish, haha. I think we tried majority of their signature dishes too, lol.

Must-have at every dimsum place! Pretty juicy on the inside w the soup and all but the skin was a lil dry.. Parents thought that it was so-so but as a xlb fanatic I'll forever love all kinds of xlbs, hahaha. Someone bring me to Lot1's new xlb restaurant please hahaha.

Aka Fan Choy! Didn't know that there was half an egg inside (you can see some whitish/yellowish thing at the bottom left corner right, that's the egg lol)! T'was only when we ate till the end that we realised that there was an egg and mummy ate it hehe. Parents said this was good, but I had really little of this.. Can't tank too much rice stuff hahaha need to keep my tummy for the liao4! :D

Omg love fried tofus but I thought sakae sushi's was the best 'cause their tofu's thicker! Cut into cube form. Swee Choon's is thinner but I thought they made up for it pretty well with the pork floss topped on the fried tofus! (:

Was a little fatty inside but I thought it tasted fine! (: Adequate amounts of meat inside the pau (: K gosh I can never write reviews hahah I'm already getting tired..

Daddy ordered this hahaha. He saw the menu and he was like, "Tick one for me" LOL. Didn't eat the fatty parts but the lean parts and the gravy was good! Daddy made use of the leftover gravy to eat the la mian hahaha.

Don't be deceived by this!! Looks good but doesn't really taste good.. Hahah it's just crabstick and chives inside, nothing much!! Or mayb it didn't taste as good as the rest of the foodies because I had this the last.. Hahaha.

This was the reason why I even suggested having dimsum for dinner in the first place! Was kind craving for the kind of chee cheong fun that's stuffed, y'know the kind with either charsiew or prawns as fillings? School's Kopitiam has that at the dimsum stall but not in Swee Choon. Nevertheless, the chee cheong fun is pretty good with the soya sauce alone! Don't really have to mix it with the sweet sauce or chili sauce they provide!

I must say their carrot cake was a steal! $1.80 for two such pieces! (There's one more piece at the bottom which you can't quite see from the picture). I think it's the most affordable dish in their entire menu lol. Not as oily as the ones you'll find in the dimsum stalls in coffee shops, and you won't get too sick having too much of it (:

Mummy wanted to try this tho I thought t'was pretty weird initially.. I mean, how good can a spring roll taste with only veggie inside?? Hahah but to my greatest surprise I thought this chive roll actually tasted better than the spring roll with all the other kinds of veggies inside!! LOL. It's like a long, roll version of vegetable gyoza lmao.

Okay here's the spring roll. Thought it tasted normal after I had the chive roll above lol.

Like I said, I didn't wnna have too much rice so I didn't have much of this too. The spring onions were probably also a turn-off, hahaha.

I think mummy liked this and I thought t'was better than others. Not as flour-y tasting and the meat stuffing isn't too fatty! Skin wasn't too thick so it's not bad! (:

All hail the hargow!! T'was so so good omg! Okay mayb the skin is a little too dry (the rough texture in the pic, haha), but I thought the prawn was succulent enough to make up for the dry skin. Jiali's stamp of approval!! :D Loved the prawn omg.

They tasted a little spicy but it was majority bones so you have to chew real long to get the meat off the bones, lol. Pretty surprised why my parents didn't order the chicken claws. I thought they would have!

Fried version of the hargow but it's much saltier!! Comes with mayo dip (not in picture) too, so I thought the saltiness was pretty much neutralized with the sweet mayo, haha.

Mandatory shot of the liu sha bao hahah!! Parents have no skill eating this but I do!! :D T'was my fam's first time trying it but they didn't think highly of it after tasting it, hahaha. Guess they didn't like how the salted egg yolk tasted both salty and sweet at the same time haha. Bro commented that t'was powdery too, but isn't that how liu sha baos taste like??? HAHAH NEH MIND.

So this sums up my journey to the dimsum paradise with my family! Was pretty amused by their wireless service bell hahaha, and their service was quite prompt apart from the long waiting time in the queue. At least we had that time to think about what food we wanted to order so it didn't seem as long (: Really love dimsum and I hope we'll go back again! Okay but the most recent comment from my parents is that we'll prolly try dimsum from other places :D Which doesn't really matter 'cause I get to eat any way, hahaha :D

Meanwhile in the kitchen, daddy's trying to settle dinner with the air fryer hahah. Wedges, calamari rings (which were a failure the previous time he tried 'cause they weren't oily enough) and nuggets await me! Gosh, need to go exercise some time soon. Ought to hit the gym but I'd be so intimidated to run on my own with my low stamina now hahaha. Def gnna get judged so I reckon swimming'd be better, hahaha.

Can't quite believe it's the last week of my hols already.. Just one more week and I'm down to returning to the battlefield yet again. Sigh, wonder if I'll survive next sem with my killer mods.. The year has just come and gone like that. It seems like I'm doomed to start every year with a broken heart.
