❝ Too many accidents ❞ ♡ Wednesday, January 30, 2013
Taking some time off from all the schoolwork and typing this because there's really been too much going on in the world outside acads..
I'm sure the news of the two boys have spread like wildfire, and we're all feeling deeply saddened by their deaths. (My condolences). I mean, I didn't think so much about it when I first saw the photo of the accident scene on twitter. The photo was blurry so I didn't think it was gory, haha. I saw a broken bicycle and two people lying dismounted and motionless on gravel ground, but what caught my attention was the people near these two people. Two uniformed students on another bicycle looked on with great interest, whilst the adults simply stood around, either fearing to do anything or thinking that they should mind their own businesses.
It's scary, isn't it? How this society works.. Only photos of people who only acted as passers-by were circulated. Perhaps that's the reason why Singapore is dubbed as an emotionless society.. And perhaps what was on fb was right- society's now structured in a way that both parents work so they don't have the time to teach their kids to be wary of dangers on the road. Or maybe kids these days are just too rebellious for their own good.
Some mourn when they lose one beloved child, but what about the parents who lost both their children within that split second of the crash? The most heart-wrenching moment was seeing the photo of the mother breaking down at when she was at the accident scene. Imagine how much grieve she had to overcome; how much guilt she faced; and all that would lead to a lifetime of regret and pain for her..
And so the truck driver arrested was a Singaporean, someone who's probably passed all the BTT and FTT and TP before becoming a qualified driver. I mean, if the children were not wary enough, shouldn't the driver have been cautious since he's probably driven on Singapore roads longer than the children have lived, combined?

Which brings me to another story of an accident barely a few weeks ago, that's probably closer to heart (at least for me):
I went on a trip to Macau that was organized by my dad's working place, and there, I met a female colleague working under his department. She was a graduate, young, in her twenties, pretty as a picture, and had a one of the best-looking male colleagues as her boyfriend. They seemed like the perfect couple,
Until one day when she was crossing the road and got hit by a truck. Yeah truck again, I swear I'll be so scared and end up veering off course when I see a truck while driving next time -.- Ok I think I made "hit" sound like there was very little impact, but what happened (based on her description of the encounter) was that she was crossing the road when the green man was on (mind you, it wasn't even flashing yet), when a truck came from behind her and executed a turn IN FULL SPEED.
Like dafuq, how the hell can you hit her with so much force that she was flung 7m away?!?! 7 freaking metres omg that's like 4.5 jiali's lying on the floor wtf. She was just being a good citizen, obeying traffic rules and all, and there came an irresponsible (female) driver who claimed she stepped on the brake pedal while she was negotiating the turn.
Bitch please. Your driving instructor never teach you to BRAKE BEFORE you maneuver the turn?!?! If you had looked where your eyes should have been looking and depressed the correct pedal in time, you probably wouldn't have caused this innocent young lady to lie in a pool of fresh blood so near your bloody truck. She was desperately trying to ask for help from passers-by and no one extended any help until one of my dad's colleagues recognized her, and when she managed to dial for her boyfriend. But before that, she had to force herself to move to the side of the road so she didn't have to risk getting rolled over by even more oncoming vehicles. All by herself omg. These heartless passers-by..
Oh and did I mention?? Her legs got rolled over by that same truck, adding on to the numerous bones she'd already broken due to the impact. Day after day, more hospital reports showed that more bones were fractured, which meant that she had to go for an increasing number of operations on a daily basis. She had the liquid form of painkillers passed through her body, which caused her even more pain than anything.. When my dad visited her along with several other colleagues, all she could bring herself to say to them was, "I wish I was dead". I winced when I heard my dad tell me this.
Well of course she's on the road to recovery now. And I'll pray for her speedy recovery- that she'll stay strong, and that everyone around her will love and care for her even more than they used to.

Like my family said, everyone will face misfortunes in life. If you're lucky, you'd be able to survive these incidents unscathed; if you're not, your family and friends will have to go through the sufferings of losing someone they once loved so dearly. Some people might be given a second chance to live, but feel that they're better off dead. Idk, I guess it depends on your state of mind. People have got to be really strong and believe in the people who love them.
Bitch mode on omg. I'm feeling so unjust for these people I think I'm prolly going to have a phobia of walking near these goddamned trucks. Gah this is such a depressing post. Shall end off with a more optimistic tone:
Cheer up and dry your damp eyes
And tell me when it rains
Then I'll blend up a rainbow above you,
And shoot it through your veins
